The Central Asia Jiu-Jitsu Championship (JJAU Regional Championship Central Asia 2026) was held in Kyrgyzstan’s capital, Bishkek, from May 1 to 3, bringing together fighters from various countries in the region.
The tournament featured athletes from Central Asia, including Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Turkmenistan.
The competitions were held in various age categories: U14, U16, U18, U21, and among adult athletes. The championship was organized by the international organization JJAU.
The Tajikistan national team participated in these competitions with a large squad and won medals of various merits. Under the guidance of Tajik master Komil Boymurodov, the team secured 3 silver and 9 bronze awards.
“All team members performed at the highest level. The coaching staff is satisfied with the team’s performance, and the competition showed us what we need to work on further to improve our results in the future. The youth performed well, and the adults also performed at a high level. In particular, Alisher Gharibshoyev and Marouf Dilshod became bronze medalists of the tournament, while Mustafo Kudridinov and Salmon Rizoyev became vice-champions.”
“This season, we have many more events ahead, and we will look for opportunities to participate in them. We will now analyze our performance in the recent competitions, correct mistakes, and prepare for the upcoming tournaments,” said the team coach Komil Boymurodov.
It should be noted that Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art that focuses on ground fighting, control, and finishing the fight through joint locks or chokeholds. The main idea is that a person of smaller stature and strength can defeat a larger opponent through technique, leverage, and proper positioning.
The competition formats include the following disciplines: Gi – fighting in traditional kimono (gi), allowing the use of clothing for grips (collar, sleeves, trousers). No-gi – fighting without a kimono. Athletes wear rash guards and shorts, focusing on controlling the body and limbs.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is actively developing in Tajikistan, and the country has achieved significant success on the international stage. A key role in this is played by one of the country’s leading specialists in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Komil Boymurodov.
He is a two-time world champion among black belts in Jiu Jitsu Gi and No-Gi World Champion, an international-class master of sports of the Republic of Tajikistan. In 2024, he received the 1st dan in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Boymurodov combines his sports career with coaching at Team Boymurodov Gym – a professional training center for Jiu-Jitsu and grappling, located in Dushanbe.
