DUSHANBE, November 24, 2009, Asia-Plus — Tajikistan should abolish ten types of taxes that are inconsiderable and do not bring in revenue, Mr. Martin Vizir (phonetically spelled), the Tax Service Capacity Strengthening Project manager, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.
According to him, these types of taxes will bring very few benefits, while the government makes many unnecessary expenses.
“There are too many not obligatory taxes in Tajikistan,” said international expert, “Among them are retail trade sales taxes, road use tax and excise tax. I have never seen such a number of taxes in any country.”
There are four main taxes in international practice – VAT, income tax, excise tax and personal tax, Vizir added. “The Tax Committee of Tajikistan must have the department for collection of information about taxpayers and this department should encourage taxpayer to pay taxes voluntarily.”
19 types of taxes are now in Tajikistan.
