Teacher who reported being assaulted by student’s brother says case has been opened against him

It was previously reported that the prosecutor's office of the Nurabad district is considering a complaint from a teacher.

Muhimjon Rahmonov, a teacher from the Nourobod district who previously reported being assaulted by the brother of one of his students, says authorities have now opened an administrative case against him. Law enforcement agencies have not yet commented publicly on the matter.

Speaking to Asia-Plus on June 2, Rahmonov said officers from the district police department questioned him on June 1.

According to the teacher, the complaint was filed by Mahmadrizo Orzouyev, the father of the student whose academic performance allegedly sparked the conflict. Rahmonov said the complaint concerns vulgar language he used while speaking to the student. He added that the parents of another student have also filed a complaint against him.

Rahmonov acknowledged using a profane word during the exchange but denied allegations that he physically assaulted another child.

“When I called the student’s brother and informed him that she was not responding during the lesson, the girl became upset and asked, ‘What right do you have to call my parents?’ In response, I uttered a single profanity (the editorial team is not publishing the word for ethical reasons — editor’s note). However, the allegations made by another student’s parents that I allegedly struck their child are untrue. They are using these accusations to pressure me into withdrawing my complaint,” Rahmonov said.

Journalists were unable to obtain comments from the student’s relatives. A person who answered the phone number belonging to Mirali Orzouyev said he was unavailable.

According to Rahmonov, an administrative case has been opened against him under Part 3 of Article 90 of Tajikistan’s Code of Administrative Offenses, which concerns failure to fulfill duties related to the upbringing and education of a child, as well as the use of violence. The article provides for a fine of up to 1,875 somoni.

The prosecutor’s office and internal affairs authorities have not commented on the case. Attempts by Asia-Plus to obtain official information from the relevant agencies were unsuccessful.

The Nourobod District Court told Asia-Plus that materials related to both Muhimjon Rahmonov and Mirali Orzouyev have not yet been submitted for judicial review.

Meanwhile, Najmuddin Mirzozoda, head of the Nourobod district education department, said representatives of the department had been invited to attend a court hearing related to the alleged assault on the teacher.

“Yesterday we were invited to participate in the court hearing; however, we were attending a competition. As a result, the hearing was postponed to another date,” he said.

Rahmonov also said that he returned to work at the school on the morning of June 2. However, he noted that he has not received payment for the 15 days he was absent from work.
