DUSHANBE, October 15, 209, Asia-Plus  — The gold and foreign currency reserves held by the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT) increased by 147 million U.S. dollars in the last three months to October 1, 2009, reaching 331.8 million dollars, the NBT head Sharif Rahimzoda announced at a news conference in Dushanbe today.

According to him, the country’s gold and foreign currency reserves now include some 4 tons of gold.  “The U.S. dollar accounts for 15-17 percent of Tajikistan’s foreign currency reserves,” said Tajik central bank head, “The foreign currency reserves also include 450 million Russian rubles and amounts in other foreign currencies.”

As of July 1, 2009, Tajikistan’s gold and foreign currency reserves amounted to 184.8 million U.S. dollars, including little more than 3 tons of gold, Rahimzoda said, adding that they would continue increasing the country’s gold and foreign currency reserves.
