DUSHANBE, September 26, Asia-Plus  — Officers from the Drug Control Agency (DCA) have intercepted a large consignment of ecstasy in Dushanbe.

The source at DCA told Asia-Plus that their officers found a package containing 565 ecstasy tablets (totaling some 210 grams) in a car VAZ-2107 on September 24.  The 29-year-old resident of Hissar district E.R. and the 43-year-old resident of Shahrinav district H.A. were detained on suspicion of having been involved in ecstasy pushing.

“The counternarcotics officers found another 269 ecstasy tablets (totaling more than 100 grams) while searching the house of H.A. in Shahrinav,” said the source.  “The preliminary investigation has established that the detainees are members of an organized drug-trafficking.   They were pushing ecstasy tablets at 20.00 to 30.00 U.S. dollars per each”

“Ecstasy” is a term used to refer to a type of illicit street tablet containing one or more different psychotropic drugs sold on the black market and intended for recreational uses.

Methylenedioxymethamphetamine ((MDMA; commonly called “Ecstasy” itself) is the primary active agent, though such tablets may contain other compounds as well; MDMA may be entirely absent from an “Ecstasy” tablet.

Apart from their differing chemical composition, tablets are differentiated by size, shape, color, and imprinted design. Tablets will typically be identified by street names such as “Blue Mitsubishi”, and “Purple Buddha.”
