DUSHANBE, September 11, 2009, Asia-Plus — Tajik national air carrier, Tajik Air, intends to introduce flight restrictions for pregnant women, Asia-Plus has learned from Ms. Nazira Davlatova, the chairperson of the Tajik Air information and translation department.
According to her, Tajik Air recommends women do not fly after their six months of pregnancy in order to avoid stress situation. “This measure is taken to ensure of safety of future mother and baby because flight is a physical load on organism,” Ms. Davlatova said.
We will recall that a baby was born on flight from St. Petersburg to Dushanbe on December 23, 2007. No one expected mom-to-be Umeda to go into labor on a flight from St. Petersburg to Dushanbe. She was lucky that air hostesses came to the rescue, helping with delivery of the baby. The second case took place in February 2009. It was a packed flight from Moscow to Dushanbe, but passengers and crew were more than happy to make room for one extra person on the night of February 9-10 when Nargis Dostiyeva gave birth to a baby girl.
It is to be noted that airlines in different countries have their own flight restrictions for pregnant women, which can vary according to whether they are flying domestically or internationally and which airline they will be flying. Some airlines won’t allow pregnant women to travel for 30 days before their due date, while others won’t let them on board if their due date is less than seven days away.
