KULOB, August 17, 2009, Asia-Plus  — 10,296,837 U.S. dollars were remitted to banks in Khatlon’s Kulob zone in July 2009, Asia-Plus has learned from Abdukarim Nematov, the head of the branch of the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT) in Kulob.

According to him, the USD remittances decreased over the report period, while the Russian ruble remittances increased.

“Compared to July 2008, they remitted 2 million U.S. dollars less last month, while the Russian ruble remittances increased by 38 million rubles over the report period,” Nematov said.

45,304,564 U.S. dollars and 410,391,175 Russian rubles have been remitted to banks in the Kulob zone over the first seven months; the total amount is 20 percent fewer compared to the same period of last year, the NBT’s branch head said.
