DUSHANBE, August 8, 2009, Asia-Plus  — A memorial service was held in the Dushanbe St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Cathedral today to mark the anniversary of the conflict in South Ossetia.

Dean Sergiy of the Dushanbe St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Cathedral led the service on an initiative of the Georgian cultural-educational society, Satvistomo Iberia, active in Dushanbe.

Representatives from Russian, Kazakh and Korean ethnic communities as well as representatives from the Russian Embassy participated in the service.

Memorial services to remember the victims of the five-day war in South Ossetia were held in all six Russian orthodox churches functioning in Tajikistan.
