Visiting US financial official meets with Tajik ministers to discuss global crisis effects

DUSHANBE, July 31, 2009, Asia-Plus  — An impact of the global financial crisis on international community and its negative impact on Tajikistan’s economy were a major topic of a meeting of Finance Minister Safarali Najmiddinov with visiting representative of the US Department of the Treasury Tom Lanier that was held here on July 30, according to press service of the Ministry of Finance (MoF).

The sides also exchanged views on trends in world prices.

During the meeting, Najmiddinov expressed hope for further expansion of bilateral mutually beneficial economic cooperation between Tajikistan and the United States, the press service said.

On July 29, Mr. Lanier held talks with Chairman of the State Committee for Investments and State-owned Property Management (GosKomInvest) of Tajikistan, Farrukh Hamraliyev.

In the course of the talks, the sides discussed issues related to trends in world prices of basic food products and raw materials.

Hamraliyev briefed the US financial official on measures taken by the Tajik government to mitigate effects of the global financial crisis, the GosKomInvest press service said.  He noted that the government had outlined further development of energy and communication sectors as priority of its economic policy.
