DUSHANBE, July 31, 2009, Asia-Plus — Tajik women running shops in Dushanbe’s Korvon market have complained that Chinese entrepreneurs are gradually supplanting them form the market.
Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, Ms. Sabohat Rahimzoda, the chairperson of the Association of Business Women of Tajikistan, said that they had received a letter from some 50 women merchants on this subject.
According to her, the merchants complain that their places in the market are gradually acquired by Chinese entrepreneurs, who are even not registered with relevant bodies. Moreover, their goods have been delivered to Tajikistan illegally, the women said.
“Besides, the women merchants also complain that Chinese entrepreneurs treat them with disrespect,” said Ms. Rahimzoda, “I received evidence that they are right after I studied the situation in the market by myself.”
