Russian president arrives in Dushanbe

DUSHANBE, July 30, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Russian President Dmitry Medvedev arrived in Dushanbe today afternoon on a two-day working visit.

A quadrilateral meeting, involving the presidents of Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Russia, started in Dushanbe at 5:00 pm.  The presidents will give a press conference after the meeting.

Today evening, President Rahmon will have talks with his Russian counterpart, President Medvedev, according to the Tajik MFA.

Tomorrow morning, President Rahmon and President Medvedev will attend a solemn ceremony of official commissioning of the hydroelectric power plant (HPP) Sangtuda-1 on the Vakhsh River.

During his stay in Dushanbe, Medvedev is also scheduled to visit the space-surveillance center in Norak.

In the meantime, Russia’s news agency Itar Tass reported on July 28 that during the visit to Tajikistan Dmitry Medvedev will also meet Pakistani counterpart, President Asif Ali Zardari.
