DUSHANBE, July 23, 2009, Asia-Plus  — It is wrong to thing that relations between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan are not so good.

Deputy Foreign Minister, Abdullo Yuldoshev, remarked this at a press conference in Dushanbe on July 23.  “I’ll say that relationship between our countries is traditionally broad; there are both good and not so good aspects,” Abdulloyev said.

According to him, 29 crossings currently function on Tajikistan’s common border with Uzbekistan that is evidence of good relations between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

Asked about visa regime between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, the deputy minister said, “Many countries have such a regime and there is nothing bad in that.”  Moreover, the Uzbek visa is granted for “symbolic amount,” he said.

On the serious problems for Tajik citizens following Uzbek authorities’ unilateral decision in the late 1990s to mine rural border areas, Yuldoshev said they were working in that direction.

He added that Tajik authorities were taking measures to solve the issue of delimitation of the common border with Uzbekistan.

On the Roghun hydroelectricity project, the deputy minister said that Tajikistan would construct the Roghun hydroelectric power plant in any case.
