Russia and Brunei intend to expand bilateral relations, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said, opening the talks with visiting Brunei’s counterpart Prince Mohamed Bolkiah here on Wednesday.

“We consider your visit as an opportunity to examine the implementation of the agreements reached during the Russian visit of the Sultan of Brunei in 2005. The documents were adopted with the striving of our countries to develop cooperation,” the minister said. “Today we can outline steps for further expansion of cooperation. This concerns not only bilateral relations, but also the cooperation in the UN and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN),” Lavrov said.

For his part, Mohamed Bolkiah noted that he is very glad to visit Moscow and called Russian-Brunei relations quite good. These relations can be expanded further, the Brunei minister believes.
