KULOB, January 17, 2009, Asia-Plus — Consideration of the issue of launching new air routes from Kulob to the Kyrgyz capital of Bishkek and St. Petersburg (Russia) is nearing completion, Asia-Plus has learned from the Kulob airport head Ali Komilov.
According to him, if they fail to provide enough passenger traffic for the air route to Bishkek, the Kulob airport will be used as a transit airport for the flight Bishkek-Yekaterinburg.
Komilov noted that the issue of launching the air route from Kulob to St. Petersburg would also be solved positively. Russia’s air carrier, Ural Airlines, is expected to operate flights from Kulob to St. Petersburg.
“I think the issue of launching these air routes will be solved in the coming two or three months,” the Kulob airport head said, expressing hope that Kulob will have its own air company with own planes already this year.
