DUSHANBE, February 16, 2011, Asia-Plus — Tajikistan exported some 25 million kWh of electric power for more than 415,000 U.S. dollars in January 2011, according to the Ministry of Energy and Industries (MoEI).
Over the report period, Tajikistan imported 18 million kWh of electricity from neighboring countries (Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan) for 847,400 U.S. dollars.
The imported electric power cost more than twice as much as the exported electricity, while by volume, electricity exports exceeded electricity imports by 24.1 percent, the source at a MoEI said.
Tajikistan imported 13.6 million cubic meters of natural gas for 3.1 million U.S. dollars from Uzbekistan last month. In January 2010, Tajikistan imported 15.5 million cubic meters of Uzbek gas for 3.4 million U.S. dollars.
