IMF forecasts 10% inflation in Tajikistan

DUSHANBE, March 2, 2011, Asia-Plus – | Despite forecasted 7% inflation, it is expected to grow up to 10% this year, the IMF head Mr. Todd Schneider told the reporters today following his meeting with Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon.

He said the global inflation growth, including that in Tajikistan, will be mainly caused by the growing prices for food and oil commodities. “Not only Tajikistan but many other countries are facing this problem,” he said.

He also said that the decision on allocation of a $20 million tranche for Tajikistan will be made by the IMF following the completion of the current mission which lasted for two weeks.

Mr. Schneider stressed that the IMF mission is satisfied with ongoing economic reforms in Tajikistan and will provide comprehensive support to these reforms.
