DUSHANBE, January 13, 2008, Asia-Plus — Speaking to reporters in Dushanbe on January 12, the Tajik Drug Control Agency (DCA) Rustam Nazarov said that according to official statistics, 287 Tajik nationals were detained in the CIS states in January-November 2008 on suspicion of having been involved in drug trafficking, which is 234 people fewer than in the same period of 2007.
He noted that Tajikistan was ready to cooperate with any state interested in counternarcotics cooperation.
According to him, Tajikistan and Russia have signed a number of bilateral agreements to counter drug trafficking and another appropriate government-to-government agreement between Tajikistan and Russia will be signed in the near future.
Under one of the signed agreements an office of Russia’s Federal Drug Control Service was opened in Tajikistan last year, the Tajik drug control chief said.
