DUSHANBE, January 12, 2009, Asia-Plus — Tajik power deficiencies have caused electricity in Leilek and Sulyukta, southern Kyrgyzstan, Kyrgyz new agency AKIpress reported on January 10 referring Kyrgyzstan’s open joint-stock company (OJSC), National Power Systems of Kyrgyzstan.
According to AKIpress, a hard water-and-energy situation that emerged in Tajikistan may seriously affect the upcoming vegetation period in the whole Central Asian region.
Power shortages in Tajikistan have caused systematic electricity disruptions in Kyrgyzstan, AKIpress reported. Electricity rationing introduced in Tajikistan has resulted in power electricity supplies to the district of Leilek and the city of Sulyukta in the Kyrgyz region of Betken being reduced by 4 megawatt, the news agency said.
The National Power Systems of Kyrgyzstan is currently taking all necessary measures to provide proper electricity supplies to consumers through negotiations with representatives of the Tajik power systems, according to AKIpress.
In the meantime, Barqi Tojik (Tajik electric systems) power holding refrained from commenting on this report.
