Year-round greenhouse in Vose produces its first vegetable crops

KULOB, May 5, 2011, Asia-Plus  — A greenhouse at the agricultural production cooperative, Sadbarg, in Khatlon’s Vose district has produced its first cucumber crop.

The Sadbarg chairwoman Nazarbi Davlatova says their greenhouse laid out on 0.2 ha is still the only year-round greenhouse in Khatlon province.

“Since 2005, our agricultural production cooperative has grown cotton on 31 hectares and grains on 6 hectares,” said Davlatova, “Besides, we have laid out garden on 1.45 hectares and the remaining 0.55 ha has been allotted for construction of two year-round greenhouses.”

In the meantime, Mohammad Salim, head of the Oxfam office in Kulob, says 55 greenhouses have been constructed in the area under financial support of Oxfam.  “Besides, local residents have constructed 56 more greenhouses on their own,” Salim noted.
