DUSAHNBE, April 21, Asia-Plus – President Emomali Rahmonov today morning received head of delegations from the CIS states who arrived in
Tajikistan
to attend the 10
th
session the council of the CIS interior ministers that opened in
Dushanbe
today.
Russian Minister of Interiors Rashid Nurgaliyev told journalists following the meeting with Rahmonov that the president’s meeting with the CIS interior ministers focused on the agenda of the CIS interior ministers’ meeting, fight against current challenges and threats, illegal migration and fight against drug trafficking.
According to Nurgaliyev, during the meeting Rahmonov pointed to the necessity of expanding coordination of actions of the CIS law enforcement agencies.
Heads and senior representatives of interior ministries from the CIS states briefed the president on the council’s activity. For example, a joint operation, dubbed “Arsenal”, led to seizure of 10,000 unit of firearms and the “Search” operation led to arrest of 7,250 criminals.
“During the meeting we also discussed issues related to extradition of criminals,” Russian minister said.
Nurgaliyev highly appraised the level of cooperation between Russian and Tajik police and noted that recent seizure of large amounts of drugs in
St. Petersburg
and
Irkutsk
were evidence of that.
