36 emergency situations reportedly prevented by Tajik anti-hail stations this year

DUSHANBE, June 4, 2011, Asia-Plus — Anti-hail stations of the Committee for Environmental Protection have prevented 36 emergency situations this year, Rahmatullo Khairulloyev, the head of the monitoring and environmental policy department within the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of Tajikistan, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.

“Using the “Alazan-6” anti-hail missiles, our specialists have managed to prevent the threat of hail and heavy rains that would cause floods and serious damage to agricultural lands,” said Khairulloyev, “This year, the Committee specialists have recorded more than 300 cases of the formation of hail clouds.”

According to him, the Committee now has some 1,000 “Alazan-6” missiles to disperse the hail clouds.

We will recall that Tajikistan in 2007 adopted the national program for restoration of anti-hail operations for 2007-2012.  In 2010, the national budget earmarked more than 2.5 million somoni for the anti-hail operations.

Last year, the State Agency for Hydrometeorology of Tajikistan and Russia’s Federal State Unitary Enterprise named after Chapayev (Cheboksary) signed an agreement on delivery of 7.2 million Russian rubles worth of 500 “Alazan-6” anti-hail missiles to Tajikistan.
