DUSHANBE, November 29, 2011, Asia-Plus — Following four months of joint cooperation between the U.S. Embassy, the Shouroobod district leadership, and the Sarichashma Medical Clinic staff, the U.S. Embassy completed renovation of the Sarichashma Women’s Maternity/OB-GYN clinic, the U.S. Embassy in Dushanbe said.

The U.S. Embassy renovated the entire six room maternity ward and provided medical equipment and supplies to facilitate a comfortable environment for staff and patients.  The Sarichashma Medical Clinic serves approximately 20,000 citizens from nearby villages.

Representatives from the U.S. Embassy, district and local governments, and members of the community attended the ribbon cutting ceremony at the clinic on November 28, 2011.  As part of the opening ceremony, the clinic staff toured the renovated facility.

Dr. Madismon Saidov, Sarichashma Medical Clinic’s Chief Medical Doctor, delivers 10-12 babies each month.  Dr. Saidov stated, “I am proud to offer clean and proper facilities to the expecting mothers of Sarichashma.”  This project will further benefit from the U.S. Government funded water project currently underway in Sarichashma.

The U.S. Embassy provided $35,000 worth of assistance to the Sarichashma Medical Clinic, including materials for the renovation, office furniture, durable medical equipment, surgical supplies, and medications.  Since 1992, the American people have provided approximately $984 million in programs that support Tajikistan’s democratic institutions, health care, education, and economic growth.
