DUSHANBE, January 20, 2012, Asia-Plus  — The Islamic Revival Party of Tajikistan (IRP) has organized election observation training for its female activists.

According to IRP’s headquarters in Dushanbe, the party female activists from districts subordinate to the center have taken training course on the following themes: information and analytical work during preparations for elections; and selection and training of election observers.

To-date, fifteen female activists of the party have reportedly taken the training course and the IRP plans to organize such courses for its supporters in all the regions of the country.

We will recall that IRP leader Muhiddin Kabiri accused election officials of facilitating multiple voting and of not allowing IRP monitors the vote count during the parliamentary elections in February 2010.

News agencies quoted Kabiri in February 2010 as saying that his supporters registered numerous violations, including multiple voting and obstruction of the work of electoral observers and poll workers. Kabiri said in February 2010 he believed his party could have expanded its parliamentary representation from two to ten.

Founded in October 1990, the Islamic Revival Party of Tajikistan was registered on December 4, 1991.  The party was banned by Supreme Court in June 1993 and legalized in August 1999.  The Islamic Revival Party of Tajikistan is the only Islamic party registered in CIS Central Asia.  The party reportedly has more than 35,000 members.  Current leader of the party is Muhiddin Kabiri.  He took over following the death in 2006 of his mentor, Said Abdullo Nuri, the iconic founder of the IRP.
