DUSHANBE, April 6, 2012, Asia-Plus  — The Sughd Free Economic Zone (FEZ “Sughd”) and Metals & Materials Co (Metmat Inc.) signed a memorandum of cooperation on April 3, according to the FEZ “Sughd” Administration.

The document is reportedly dedicated to promote fruitful cooperation with Metmat Inc. in attracting investment, high technologies and innovation products, supporting development of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) on the territory of the FEZ “Sughd”.

The document provides for strengthening of interaction between the sides to establish ties between entrepreneurs, mutual organizational assistance with seeking potential investors and partners for implementation and financing of the investment projects within the FEZ “Sughd” area, the source said.

According to him the signed documents defines frame conditions for cooperation between the FEZ “Sughd” Administration and Metmat Inc.

The Sughd Free Economic Zone or FEZ “Sughd” is a free economic zone located in Sughd province on the territory of the south-west industrial zone of the city of Khujand, in the most economically developed region of Tajikistan. Sughd FEZ was created in 2008 by a parliamentary decree on 320 hectares of land for 25 years and began operating in August 2009.  In 2010, the Administration of the Sughd FEZ registered first five corporate residents of the free economic zone.  The zone offers customs and tax incentives to qualified investors that invest at least 500,000 USD and import at least 90% of the technology and equipment.

Metals & Materials Co (Metmat Inc.) has been founded over decade ago in the United States in order to assist metallurgical industry in former USSR in modernization projects.  Since that time, together with several Western partners, Metmat has participated in many projects, both green and brown field, mostly in aluminum industry, and recently in steelmaking and non-ferrous metals.  Metmat has carried out many consulting projects in cast houses in North and South America, in the area of scrap remelting process and dross treatment.  Metmat is also conducting projects in nickel refining and copper production.
