KHUJAND, June 28, 2012, Asia-Plus  — More than 30,000 hemp plants have reportedly been destroyed in the northern Sughd province in the framework of the anti-drug operation, dubbed Kuknor-2012 (Poppy-2012).

An official source at the Sughd police directorate says  totaled included 2,246 hemp plants destroyed in the Jabborrasoulov district, more than 6,000 hemp plants destroyed in the Bobojonghafurov district, Konibodom district, more than 8,000 hemp plants destroyed in the Konibodom district, and more than 13,000 hemp plants destroyed in the Kuhistoni Mastchoh district.  

This annual anti-drug operation, involving representatives of law enforcement agencies, local authorities, ministries of agriculture and health, as well as the committee for TV and radio-broadcasting, is dedicated to detect and destroy drug crops across the country.

The operation is usually launched in May and last through November
