DUSHANBE, August 13, 2012, Asia-Plus  — Assessment studies for the Roghun hydroelectricity project were a major topic of a meeting of the Tajik Ambassador to the United States Nouriddin Shamsov with the World Bank Executive Director Jorg Frieden that took place in Washington on August 8, the Tajik MFA information department reports.

In the course of the talks, Tajik diplomat reportedly noted that Tajikistan had taken all measures to continue cooperation with the World Bank on conducting the techno-economic assessment study (TEAS) and the environmental and social impact assessment (ESIA) for the Roghun project and asked the World Bank to continue work in that direction.

Ambassador Shamsov underlined the significance of the Roghun hydroelectricity project for further development of Tajikistan’s economy and noted that Tajikistan would continue reconstruction work at the site for construction of the Roghun hydroelectric power plant (HPP) in line with agreements that were reached between Tajikistan and the World Bank in July, the source said.

The sides reportedly also considered issues related to cooperation between Tajikistan and the World Bank in alleviating poverty level in Tajikistan and implementing social and economic development projects in the country.
