DUSHANBE, August 15, 2012, Asia-Plus  — New Tajik Ambassador to the United States Nouriddin Shamsov met with new U.S. Ambassador to Tajikistan Susan Elliott in Washington on August 10, the Tajik MFA information department reports.

In the course of the talks, Nouriddin Shamsov briefed Ms. Susan Elliot on Tajik government’s view on expansion of cooperation with the United States, the current political and social situation in Central Asia and Afghanistan as well as modern threats and challenges in the region.

Tajik diplomat stressed that Tajikistan would pay attention to expansion of cooperation with the United States on strengthening border with Afghanistan and combating terrorism, extremism and drug trafficking in the future as well.  According to him, Tajikistan is also interested in expanding bilateral economic, educational and cultural cooperation with the United States and continuing constructive dialogue on the human rights issues, the source said.
