DUSHANBE, August 30, 2012, Asia-Plus  — Ms. Makhfirat Khidirova, Chairperson of the Tajikistan-Korea Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group, which is aimed at working for a greater friendship and goodwill between parliamentarians of Tajikistan and South Korea and thereby serve to further cooperation between national parliaments of both countries and between both countries, today met here with Mr. Yen Chong Gu (phonetically spelled), Korea’s Charge d’Affaires to Tajikistan.

Muhammadato Sultonov, a spokesman for Tajikistan’s lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament says Korean diplomat handed over to Ms. Khidirova an invitation of the Korean Foundation to pay a visit to Seoul in 2013.

Established by the South Korean National Assembly in 1991 with the aim to enhance the image of Korea in the world and also to promote academic and cultural exchange programs, the Korea Foundation is an independent organization affiliated with the Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Korean diplomat reportedly also noted that a series of events dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Korea and Tajikistan would take place from September 17 to September 21 and expressed hope that Tajik MPs would take an active part in those events.

For her part, Ms. Khidirova noted that national parliaments of both countries had a good potential for further expansion of bilateral cooperation between the countries, Sultonov said.
