An official source at the Interior Ministry’s office in Sughd province said on Tuesday that the cases have been registered in Bobojonghafurov, Qairoqqum, Shahriston, Konibodom, Ghonchi and Zafarobod (suicide attempt) districts.

Local experts say those six persons have been motivated by economic and family problems.

According to the statistical data from the Interior Ministry’s office in Sughd, 206 cases of suicide, including 53 suicide attempt cases, have been reported in the province over the first eight months of this year.

Men, including thirteen minors, have reportedly committed suicide in 106 cases and women, including 1six, have committed suicide in 100 cases.

The listed causes of suicide cases registered over the report period were mental diseases (49), family problems (36), economic problems (7), and unknown (57).

Over the same eight-month period, nine persons have been brought to justice in the province for driving to suicide, the source said.

It is to be noted that the authorities in the northern Sughd province set up a special group to try to stem an increase in the number of suicides in the area.
