KULOB, September 18, 2012, Asia-Plus — Mahalla (neighborhood community) committees have been registered in four villages of the Dahana jamoat in Khatlon’s Kulob district.

The jamoat chairman Hoshim Abdulhaqov says management and development of the villages of Gulzor, Gulobod, Navobod and Chanor will be handed over to the mahalla committees.  “These public associations will have their offices, official seals and banking accounts,” Abdulhaqov noted.

According to him, the mahalla committees are authorized to gain access to entrepreneurial and international donor organizations.

The organizational work on establishing the mahalla committees in the mentioned four villages has been carried out under financial support of Oxfam Tajikistan.

The Oxfam profile program field officer Habibullo Nabiyev says similar committees will be established in the near future in the Vose (5) and Muminobod (1) districts as well.
