DUSHANBE, September 18, 2012, Asia-Plus — On Tuesday September 18, Mr. Hiroyuki Imahashi, Ambassador, Embassy of Japan in Dushanbe and Mr. Azimboy Azizov, Chairman of Asht district, Sughd province signed a grant contract for “The Project for Improvement of the Regional Hospital in the Dusti Settlement, Asht District” for the amount of US$115,021, Japan’s Embassy in Dushanbe said.
The Government of Japan in the framework of Grant Assistance for the Grass–roots Human Security Projects (GGP) will support improvement of the health sector in Asht district through construction of a new hospital building in the Dusti settlement, Asht district.
The branch hospital of the central hospital of Asht district is located in the Dusti settlement. This branch hospital consists of a surgical department, a therapy department and a gynecology department.
Each year, about 6,000 patients from 6 settlements around Dusti receive treatment from this branch hospital. About 46 percent of the patients are women and children. However, currently there are only two rooms available for treating women and children, and their medical treatment need to be undertaken in an undesirable and sometimes in an unsanitary environment due to lack of space.
A new building with thirteen rooms will be constructed under this grant, and after the completion of the new building, the branch hospital will be recognized as a regional hospital of Asht district. This new medical facility, equipped with 24 medical beds, will bring a hygienic medical environment for women and children who live in and around the Dusti settlement. This new hospital will also have competence to perform operations in a safer and sanitary condition.
Good medical service ensures improvement of people’s living standards as well as basic human rights in the Asht district, Sughd province.
Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) is provided to local governments, educational/ medical institutions and International NGOs in developing countries. GGP supports projects in the human security sectors at the grassroots level. Since 1996, GGP has extended more than US$ 21.4 million for 285 projects in Tajikistan.
