DUSHANBE, September 19, 2012, Asia-Plus — The 9th exhibition of export goods from China’s Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR) opened at the Kokhi Borbad State Complex in Dushanbe yesterday.
According to information from Tajikistan’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI), 70 Chinese companies have put on display their achievements in computer and digital technologies, light, agricultural, and engineering industries, as well as construction at the fair that runs through September 21.
Meetings of representatives of the business communities of the two countries and presentation of the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) of Kashgar Prefecture of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region will take place on the sidelines of the fair.
In order to boost the economy in Kashgar region, the Chinese government classified the area a Special Economic Zone, the sixth one in China, in May 2010.
A ‘Special Economic Zone’ (SEZ) is a geographical region that has economic and other laws that are more free-market-oriented than a country”s typical or national laws. “Nationwide” laws may be suspended inside a special economic zone.
The main objective of the ongoing exhibition is in promoting attraction investments to boost Tajikistan’s economy, search for business partners and launch of joint ventures, the CI source noted.
Since 2004, similar exhibitions have taken place in Dushanbe, Kulob, Danghara, Gorno Badakhshan and other regions of Tajikistan.
