DUSHANBE, October 23, 2012, Asia-Plus  — Tajik Prime Minister Oqil Oqilov is attending the 2012 High-Level International Energy Conference of the World Energy Forum in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The forum kicked off on October 22 and is concluding tomorrow and its participants reportedly include more than 20 heads of state and government, 40 national energy ministers and more than 200 managers of international companies.

It is to be noted that it is the first World Energy Forum being held outside the United Nations headquarters.

According to forum’s official website, the World Energy Forum chose UAE to host its conference for 2012 due to the country’s geographic and strategic location and its status as a global trade hub.

The event is being held at the International Convention and Exhibition Center under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai.

According to the UAE official state news agency, WAM, speaking at the forum, Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid al-Maktoum, said, “One and half billion people out of seven billions around the world are deprived of the electric energy, which represents a massive challenge for us, and we should all face this through cooperation and coordination among all the advanced and developing countries.”

World Energy Forum is an International Not-for-Profit Membership Organization which promotes cleaner and safer energy and sustainable development worldwide.  The Organization was founded in 2008 by Professor Harold Hyun-Suk Oh, who heads the Organization as President and Chairman.

Article 2 of the Charter of World Energy Forum states: World Energy Forum is to lead a global conversation on energy issues and to educate and campaign for accessible and sustainable energy that can benefit all nations and peoples.  To this end, WEF facilitates political will as well as research, technological advancement, and capacity-building so as to achieve an energy-secure world.

World Energy Forum envisions to be a global grassroots organization which embraces the needs of all nations and peoples, including governments and private sector, to bring about the change in the world in the energy practice. It is a global movement which aspires to create a new paradigm for sustainable development throughout the world for the present as well as future generations.

The High-Level Conference on Energy is an annual international conference that brings together leaders from governments and private sector from the United Nations Member States and discusses various topics pertaining to energy issues, including technology, policies, investment, capacity-building, environment, and public and private partnership.  In recent years, much discussion has been focused on energy access for the developing economies and also technologies for cleaner, safer and more sustainable energy.
