OSCE Centre in Dushanbe organizes ecological summer camp for Tajik youth

DUSHANBE, July 28, Asia-Plus – On Thursday July 27, young Tajik environmental activists gathered in the tajik northern city of Qairoqqum for the opening of an ecological summer camp, organized by the OSCE Centre in Dushanbe.

Mr. Aleksandr Sodiqov, Media Assistant at the OSCE Center in Dushanbe, has told Asia-Plus that during the 10-day camp, the 60 participants will work together to create action plans on environmental protection.

The participants are all environmental activists dubbed “Green Patrols” because of their involvement in a project financed by the OSCE Centre and the Environment and Security Initiative partners, and implemented by the non-governmental organizations Youth of the 21st Century and Youth Group for Environmental Protection.

According to the Asia-Plus interlocutor, the participants also will establish a Green Youth Organization to unify Tajikistan”s young Green Patrols.  In addition, they will share experiences and discuss future co-operation.

Mr. Frank Johansen, the head of the OSCE field office in Khujand, opeoing the camp called on the participants to share the lessons they learn in the camp with their friends and relatives.  He note that it would be their contribution to environmental protection.

Mr. Rajabboy Karimov, the head of the Sughd Department for Enviromental Protection, telling the camp-opening ceremony noted that they relied on the assistance of Green Patrols in countering Tajikistan”s main environmental concerns.
