, July 31, Asia-Plus – The U.S. Government, through its partner Counterpart Humanitarian Assistance Program, rushed emergency supplies to the victims of the two earthquakes that shook the Qumsangir district in the southern


province

Khatlon


Saturday [July 29].

According to information from the U.S. Embassy in Dushanbe, the aid included first aid medical supplies as well as blankets, beds, clothing and other household items to assist the people from the 400 homes destroyed.  The amount of the direct aid delivered so far is over $24,000.   The Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES) is coordinating disaster relief and will distribute the items.

“The U.S. Embassy is saddened by the loss of life during the earthquakes and hopes these items will be able to help the injured and homeless towards recovery from this unfortunate incident,” said the source, “The United States is working with Tajik authorities and international organizations to determine further ways of providing relief and assistance to Tajikistan’s earthquake victims.”
