DUSHANBE, October 3, Asia-Plus – A roundtable meeting formally titled “Social Initiatives on Tackling Problems of Labor Migration in Central Asia” is being held in Dushanbe today.

Participants of the meeting organized by the OSI/AF Tajik Branch’s Law Program include representatives of public associations from Central Asia’s states and Russia, network of information-legal centers for migrants, Tajikistan’s key government bodies, as well as representations of international organizations on migration and labor active in Dushanbe.    

According to the Tajik Branch of Open Society Institute/Assistance Foundation (OSI/AF), participants at the meeting are considering issues related to working out regional strategy of cooperation in resolving problems facing migration processes in the Central Asian region through efforts undertaken by public associations jointly with key government bodies.  

The meeting focused on problems of providing permanent regional interaction between public associations in Central Asia and Russia dealing with labor migration issues for creating a mechanism of regional cooperation and lobbing.  

The meeting participants are also familiarizing themselves with experience of other regions in tackling labor migration problems, legalization and adaptation of labor migrants.  

Oinihol Bobonazarova, chairperson of the OSI/AF Tajik Branch National Board, Sumangul Taghoyeva, Deputy Tajik Labor and Social Security Minister, and Anvar Boboyev, the head of Tajikistan’s State Migration Service, will address the meeting.
