DUSHANBE, January 18, Asia-Plus – On Wednesday January 17, Tajik President Emomali Rahmonov arrived Sanya in China”s southernmost Hainan Province, Xinhua reported.
According to the news agency, Rahmonov is to stay in the island province for five days.
Yesterday evening, Rahmonov Tajik president held talks with the Provincial Governor Luo Baoming.
Rahmonov noted that Tajikistan China are friendly neighbors as well as strategic partners, and Tajikistan is eager to learn from China, in particular in the field of tourism development and tourist facilities construction. Rahmonov said this was his third time to visit Hainan, the most famous tropical resort in China, adding that the city of Sanya has developed remarkably with more beautiful scenery and improved livelihood.
Governor Luo briefed the Tajik guest on the recent economic development and the current conditions of local tourism industry. Luo said Hainan attracted about 610,000 overseas visitors in 2006, an increase by 48 percent and suggested the Rahmonov see more of the province and feel more of the culture and service of Hainan. Luo said Hainan is ready to make more contribution to the cooperation between Tajikistan and the province.
Rahmonov”s seven-day state visit to China as guest of Chinese President Hu Jintao started on January 15. Prior visit to Hainan, he also paid a visit to the Three Gorges Dam in central China”s Hubei Province.
On January 16, Rahmonov met in Beijing with Wu Bangguo, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People”s Congress (NPC), China”s top legislative body, according to Xinhua. Wu noted China is ready to work with Tajikistan to earnestly implement the treaty on good neighborly friendship and cooperation signed by Chinese and Tajik presidents on Monday.
Rahmonov said the Tajik government supports the legislative bodies of both countries to strengthen cooperation and play a greater role in promoting bilateral relations.
On January 15, Rahmonov held talks with Chinese President Hu Jintao and attended a business and investment forum between China and Tajikistan on January 16 together with Chinese Vice Premier Wu Yi.
