DUSHANBE, March 26, Asia-Plus — Over the past weekends, officers from the counternarcotics agency have intercepted some three kilograms of raw opium in the northern province of Sughd.
A source at the Drug Control Agency (DCA) said that an operation carried out by the drug control officers in Khujand, the capital of the Sughd province, on March 25 led to the seizure of some two kilograms of raw opium. “The drugs were found in a car belonging to resident of the Mastchoh district,” the source said. The driver and his passenger were detained on suspicion of having been involved in drug trafficking.
Last week, officers from the DCA directorate for Sughd also detained an officer from the Mastchoh police directorate. “Two packages containing some one kilogram of raw opium were confiscated from him,” the DCA source said.
In all, officers from the country’s counternarcotics agency have intercepted some 100 kilograms of drugs since the beginning of the year.
