DUSHANBE, June 12, Asia-Plus – A 5% excise tax has affected prices of jewelries produced by Tajik-Russian Joint Venture Almaz-Asia.
The Almaz-Asia director general Abdujalil Saidov said, “It has become difficult to realize our products inside the country not to mention abroad.” According to him, their products are currently realized at the rate of $19-$20 per gram, which is nearly $2-$3 higher than the rate of products imported from Turkey and other countries.
Saidov noted that his enterprise monthly processes up to 1.5 kilograms of gold, while its target has been determined at 5 kilograms of gold per month.
In connection with the arising problems, the enterprise has appealed to the government asking for exemption from the excise duty that may probably help them tackle the production problems.
The joint venture Almaz-Holding was established on March 1, 2007 by a group of Tajik entrepreneurs in cooperation with Russia’s Almaz Holding. The sides assume equal ownership interest in the company – 50% each. The enterprise produces jewelries mainly from the local gold.
