Fulfillment of target on production of aluminum under threat of frustration

DUSHANBE, July 11, Asia-Plus — An expected acute deficiency of energy resources in Tajikistan in autumn-winter 2007-08 puts fulfillment of a target on production of aluminum, determined at 420,800 tons, under threat, press release issued by Tajikistan Aluminum Company (TALCO) said.

According to press release an acute deficiency energy resource is also caused by impossibility of delivery of electrical power from Kyrgyzstan during this period.

The proper provision of the production process with electricity is one of the main terms for fulfillment of the target, press release said.

“However, despite of negative factors, when in the first quarter of 2007, because of electricity supply problems the plant received 93.4 million kWh less than its due and production of aluminum decreased by 5,469 tons, TALCO managed to increase production capacity to 97.5 percent against 96.2 percent in January-March 2007,” press release said.

Over the first six months of the year, a foreign trade turnover of TALCO has amounted to $978.1 million, which was 112.8 percent of the January-June 2006 level or $111.3 million more.

Compared to January-June 2006, the index of the volume of production of aluminum has amounted to 101.3 percent and the index of import of raw materials industrial goods amounted to 116.7 percent.  Over the same six-month period, the Tajik aluminum plant has produced 203,540 tons of primary aluminum.    .

To rehabilitate and repair technological equipment TALCO Management Ltd and Tajik Aluminum Plant have signed an agreement for some $21 million.
