DUSHANBE, August 6, Asia-Plus — Officers from the Ministry of Interior (MoI) seized more than 16 kilograms of drugs in two separate operations in Dushanbe yesterday.
The source at a MoI told Asia-Plus that Afghan national Mahmadgul Nashband was detained in Dushanbe’s Ismoili Somoni district on suspicion of having been involved in drug trafficking on August 5. Some 10 kilograms of raw opium, one sub-machine-gun Kalashnikov and one hand grenade RGD-5 were confiscated from him.
The same day, Senior Ensign Mahmadrasoul Hakimov, an officer with military unit 1004 of the Ministry of Defense (MoD), was detained in one microrayons of the Tajik capital. When searching his car Moskvich-2140, police officers found more than 6 kilograms o raw opium.
Criminal proceedings have been instituted against both drug pushers and investigations are under way.
