DUSHANBE, September 14, Asia-Plus — New Ukraine’s Ambassador to Tajikistan Vyacheslav Pokhvalsky presented credentials to President Emomali Rahmon today.
Speaking to journalists after a meeting with the Tajik head of state, Ukrainian diplomat said that they had discussed state and prospects of further expansion of economic cooperation between Ukraine and Tajikistan.
“We have also considered the possibility of participation of Ukrainian companies in modernization of hydroelectric power stations (HPS) and power grids as well as mechanization of agriculture work in Tajikistan,” Pokhvalsky said.
“We have firm legal foundation, but existing opportunities should be used completely,” the ambassador said, adding that Ukraine and Tajikistan have similar stances on many international issues.
“Ukraine is experiencing shortage of manpower and we could cooperate in production of tractors, cables and electrical equipment fro small power pants, as well as processing of farm produce,” Ukrainian ambassador said.
“Since after the Chernobyl accident only 8 percent of Ukraine’s territory is safe for growing agricultural crops, Tajikistan could export its fruits and vegetables to our country,” Pokhvalsky said.
He also pointed to the necessity of holding a session of the intergovernmental economic commission and business forum with participation of entrepreneurs of the two countries in Dushanbe before an official visit of President Rahmon to Ukraine, which is scheduled for upcoming winter.
