DUSHANBE, September 14, Asia-Plus — Closed joint-stock company (CJSC) Zarubezhneftegaz, a subsidiary of Russia’s state-controlled gas company Gazprom, has been exploring natural-gas reserves of the Sargazon field in the Danghara, Khatlon.

Zinaida Krassy, the deputy head of the Zarubezhneftegaz representative office in Dushanbe, said that the company plans to have completed the exploration work by November 1.

We will recall that Gazprom announced last December that it had received two licenses from the Tajik government to explore oil and gas reserves.  The licenses were issued under a strategic cooperation agreement signed between Gazprom and the Tajik government on May 15, 2003.

The Sargazon field, located in the Danghara district of Khatlon, some 150 kilometers from Dushanbe, has possible gas reserves of 30 billion cubic meters.

The Rengan field, located in the Rudaki district, some 20 kilometers of Dushanbe, has possible gas reserves of 35 billion cubic meters.  According to Krassy, exploration work on this field will start after completion of the exploration work on the Sargazon field.
