Heavy rain and hail caused flooding and damage to some roads in Dushanbe and other areas of Tajikistan

As a result of heavy rains and hail in Dushanbe and other regions of Tajikistan, several facilities were flooded and damaged. As reported by the Tajikistan Emergency Committee, rescue services are actively working on-site to eliminate the consequences of the disaster. No casualties have been recorded.

According to the agency, the basement premises of Maternity Hospital No. 1, houses on N. Maksum and Shamsi streets, as well as premises in the area of Health Center No. 14, were flooded. The capital’s special search and rescue unit teams promptly began pumping out the water.

In addition, in the Rudaki district, the city of Hisar, and the Hamadoni and Dangara districts of the Khatlon region, flooding and damage to roads, residential houses, and agricultural lands occurred due to mudflows. Damage assessment is ongoing.

The Emergency Committee noted that emergency services immediately mobilized forces and resources to eliminate the consequences of the disaster, using special equipment and pumping machinery.

The Emergency Committee of the Republic of Tajikistan continues round-the-clock monitoring and is taking all necessary measures to eliminate the consequences of the disaster and ensure the safety of the population.

According to the Agency for Hydrometeorology, on May 1, precipitation is also expected in Tajikistan, with some areas experiencing heavy rainfall. In this regard, mudflows are possible in the foothill and mountainous areas of republican subordination and in certain districts of Khatlon.

On May 1 and 2 in the southern and central cities and districts of Khatlon, in areas under republican subordination, and in Dushanbe, and on May 2 and 3 in the east of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region, an increase in air pollution levels with suspended particles of 10 microns (PM-10) and 2.5 microns (PM-2.5) is expected due to a dust storm from the southwest and northwest.
