DUSHANBE, September 27, Asia-Plus — Open join-stock company (OJSC) AgroInvestBonk, one of the largest commercial bank sin Tajikistan, has been awarded Western Union’s Gold Star in the “For Development of Network” category, Asia-Plus has learned at AgroInvestBonk’s marketing and public relations department.
According to the marketing and public relations department, AgroInvestBonk is the only bank in Tajikistan that was so highly appraised for serving its customers under this international money transfer system.
As of September 1, 2007, a share of Western Union in AgroInvestBonk’s money transfer system accounts for 6.8 percent for remittances in US dollars and 9.3 percent for remittances in Russian rubles.
In January-August 2007, $20,925,821 and RR101, 679,839 have been remitted to AgroInvestBonk, which is $11,416,525 and RR72,416,252 more than in the same period of last year. Compared to January-August 2006 remittance rates have amounted to 120.1 percent for remittances in USD and 246 percent for remittances in RR.
This year, AgroInvestBonk has extended a network of its branch and operational service, opening new money-transfer points that have been provided with the Western Union money transfer system.
Founded in 1992, AgroInvestBonk, with headquarters in Dushanbe, has main branches in Khorog, Khujand, Kulob and Qurghon Teppa and 57 other branches across the republic. The bank has 145 currency exchange points, 44 automated teller machines (ATM), and 72 POS-terminals.
As of August 31, 2007, AgroInvestBonk’s regulative capital has amounted to 64,194,618 somonis. Its declared capital includes 270,000 shares, valued at 27 million somonis. The face value of one share is 100 somonis.
The Western Union Company (NYSE WU) is a financial services and communications company based in the United States. Its North American headquarters are in Greenwood Village, Colorado, and its international marketing and commercial services headquarters are in Montvale, New Jersey. Until it discontinued the service, this company was the best known US company in the business of exchanging telegrams.
Western Union has a number of divisions, with products such as person-to-person money transfer, money order, and commercial services. As of June 9, 2006, the company has 270,000 Western Union agent locations in over 200 countries and territories. Reported revenues top $3 billion annually.
