DUSHANBE, October 12, Asia-Plus — According to official data of the Ministry of Education (MoE), some 4,800 children in Tajikistan do not attend schools, Deputy Education Minister Farhod Rahimov announced at a news conference in Dushanbe on October 11.
According to him, a special commission has been set up to tackle this problem.
The deputy minister noted that the majority of those children who are currently making money in Dushanbe by washing cars and working as porters on markets are from remote districts, “and neither they nor their parents are registered in Dushanbe.” “Since they do not have registration they cannot attend school,” the deputy minister said.
Rahimov noted that it is impossible to tackle this problem without enlisting the services of local authorities and the law enforcement agencies. “The ministry has already applied to local authorities of districts and regions, asking to help tackle this problem and inform the ministry of children who do not attend school,” the deputy minister said.
According to him, a MoE is taking measures to return these teenagers to school. Thus, the ministry last year elaborated a plan of actions on this subject. “The Academy of Pedagogical Sciences was charged to consider the possibility of opening evening classes at markets that would give those children an opportunity to study after work,” the deputy minister said, expressing hope that this issue will be resolved.
