DUSHANBE, November 20, Asia-Plus — Tajikistan’s national budget for 2008 earmarks 2 million somonis for purchasing vaccines against various infectious diseases, Shamsiddin Qurbonov, the head of department for mother and child protection services and reproductive health of the Ministry of Health (MoH), said.
According to him, funds for carrying out vaccination campaign for the population were earmarked for the first time in the 2007 budget. Expenditures on carrying out vaccination campaign stipulated by the 2007 budget amounted to 33,000 somonis.
“Over that last 11 years, international organizations, primarily UNICEF, have provided the country with all things (vaccines, syringes and other medical supplies) necessary for carrying out vaccination campaign; UNICEF has annually provided some 250,000-300,000 US dollars for these purposes,” said Qurbonov, “Funds stipulated by the 2008 budget allow us to carry out the vaccination campaign for the population on our own.”
