Afghan national detained in Khatlon’s Hamadoni district with more than 27 kilos of opium

DUSHANBE, November 21, Asia-Plus — Officers form the Interior Ministry department for combating drug trafficking (drug police) have stopped an attempt by Afghan national to smuggle a large consignment of narcotics into the Khatlon province, according to the Ministry of Interior (MoI). 

The source at a MoI said that Afghan national Fayzullo valadi Mahmadnazar was detained in border are of Khatlon’s Hamadoni district with 27.436 kilograms of raw opium.  

Criminal proceedings have been instituted against him and an investigation is under way.  

As it had been reported earlier, a group dealing with drug trafficking was revealed in Dushanbe last weekend.  The ring members were both Tajik and Afghan citizens.  An operation led to the seizure of more than 19 kilograms of raw opium, but ring members managed to escape. 

4,815 kilograms of drugs have been intercepted in Tajikistan over the first ten months of this year.  Of this amount, 2,331 kilograms have been seized by the MoI officers.
