DUSHANBE, January 8, Asia-Plus — Students and teachers from the Khujand-based Central Asian branch of Russia’s New University will be placed at higher educational institutions in the Sughd province, according to the Ministry of Education (MoE).
The source at a MoE said that by education minister’s resolution students of the closed university would be placed at Khujand State University, University of Business and Politics, Tajik Mining Institute, Khujand branch of Tajik Technological University, Tajik University of Commerce and Khujand branch of Tajik Economic Institute.
As it had been reported earlier, the appeals commission of Tajikistan’s High Economic Court last November handed down a ruling to close the Khujand branch following application of the MoE. Inspection by the ministry has revealed that the brunch functions illegally. Moreover, under the branch’s charter financing should have been conducted by the founder while actually, the branch had been conducted at the expense of students. The ministry had repeatedly sent letters to the branch requiring taking measures to remove the mentioned shortcomings.
However, administration of the branch ignored the letters. A joint Tajik-Russian commission inspected the branch from October 29 to November 4 2007; inspection by the commission recorded numerous instances of violation of Tajikistan’s legislation. The inspection results were submitted for consideration to the appeals board of the High Economic Court and it ruled that the branch should be closed.
According to the MoE data, the Khujand branch of Russia’s new University had 614 students, including 198 correspondence students.
