Re-registration of print media ends in Tajikistan
DUSHANBE, January 8, Asia-Plus — A process of re-registration of print media, publishing houses and printeries with the Ministry of Culture (MoC) ended on January 1, Gulmahmad Davlatov, a spokesman for the ministry, said.
As of January 1, 2008, 272 newspapers, 72 magazines and seven news agencies have been reported in Tajikistan. According to Davlatov, 110 newspapers, including 70 private ones, 35 magazines, 80 enterprises dealing with printing trade, 22 publishing houses and six news agencies have to date been reregistered with the ministry.
The re-registration results will be summed up by January 15, and strict measures will be introduced against print media and publishing houses that have failed to be re-registered with the MoC by the date fixed, the spokesman said.
“We will to apply to the Ministry of Justice asking for introducing appropriate measures against violators of government’s resolution establishing procedures of registration of publishing organizations, right up to closure,” Davlatov said. However, he added that the term of re-registration of print media and publishing houses would be probably extended for another three months.
